Auburn Women Lose Heartbreaker to Texas A&M; Look Toward Selection Sunday

The Auburn women bowed out of the SEC Tournament Friday night, losing a heartbreaker to Texas A&M, 64–62. The Tigers (22–9) fought hard in a game that saw nine lead changes and 10 ties.

With less than 30 seconds to go and the game tied at 62-all, the Aggies’ Kayla Wells hit a jumper at the five second mark to give No. 15 Texas A&M a 64–62 lead. Auburn was unable to score as the clocked ticked off, and TAMU (24–6) escaped with its its second two-point win over the Tigers this year.

Auburn created 26 turnovers in the game but were only able to turn them into 21 points. Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy pointed to that failure as the ultimate difference for her Tigers. “[It was]definitely a winnable game,” said Williams-Flournoy. “We didn’t score enough points off those turnovers.”

Auburn still had a good year with 22 regular season wins and making it to the quarterfinals of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Up next for the Tigers is the NCAA Tournament. Auburn will find out its destination during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
