NEW POLL ALERT: Auburn Unranked

First time this season...

A new AP Poll just got released, and the formerly-16th-ranked team in the country is now no more...

Auburn dropped from #16 to unranked, although the Tigers are the top team in the “Receiving Votes” category. They’re right ahead of Cincinnati and Washington. Now there are four ranked teams out of the SEC — Tennessee (#1), Kentucky (#7), LSU (#19), and Mississippi State (#22) — and Auburn’s out of the rankings for the first time this season.

Here’s the top ten:

  1. Tennessee
  2. Duke
  3. Virginia
  4. Gonzaga
  5. Michigan
  6. Michigan State
  7. Kentucky
  8. Nevada
  9. North Carolina
  10. Marquette

Tennessee stays in the top spot virtue of a 2-0 week, but it wasn’t easy. The Vols skated by Vanderbilt in overtime on the road before having to come back against West Virginia at home during the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tennessee’s win over the Mountaineers was one of only four for the conference during the event (Kentucky beat Kansas, Texas A&M beat Kansas State, and Georgia beat Texas), and it keeps them at #1 for another week.

Auburn, meanwhile, is back at home for three straight games. Missouri comes in on Wednesday night, then Alabama on Saturday night, and Florida next week. That’s an opportunity to jump back above .500 in the SEC with games against teams that have struggled this year, and they’re all inside the friendly confines of Auburn Arena. Let’s see when the Tigers get Austin Wiley back from injury and if they can settle in to make some adjustments from the past few games.
