AP ALL-SEC TEAM ANNOUNCED

Light haul for the Tigers this year...

The Associated Press All-SEC teams were just announced, and Auburn didn’t have quite as many honorees as they have in the past on the roster...

Last season, Auburn had five players named to the first team, including SEC Offensive Player of the Year Kerryon Johnson. This season, no offensive players made the first team, and only Deshaun Davis made the first team on defense for Auburn. Derrick Brown was the Tigers’ only other honoree, with a spot on the second-team defensive lineup.

Fifteen of the players on the first and second teams came from either Alabama or Georgia, meaning that Auburn’s biggest rivals are still the most littered with talent. For an offensive mind like Gus Malzahn, not getting any offensive players honored this season is a tough pill to swallow. The production seemed to pick up a little against Alabama in the Iron Bowl, but still netted just 21 points. For the regular season, the Tigers averaged only 28.3 ppg (72nd in the country), but just 22.3 in SEC games. Compare that to the whopping 37.1 ppg in SEC play last year, and the difference is staggering, especially when you consider that Auburn had a returning quarterback/offensive coordinator combo, along with some serious weapons at the skill positions.

We’ll see how the bowl game against Purdue goes, and if Auburn snags Kelly Bryant on Tuesday, we may yet see a return to the read-option offenses of 2010 and 2013 under Gus Malzahn. War Eagle!
