Homecoming

It’s been quite a few years since I last attended an Auburn Homecoming as a student; and 2018 will make 35 years to be exact. And, in that span, I’ve not missed a single Homecoming game.

Homecoming is always a good time to spend a Saturday on the Plains and this week will be no different but, attending as an Alum and attending as a student are different; at least to me.

One thing I always enjoyed was spending the week working on floats and attending the Homecoming parade. That was a fun time with, basically, not a care in the world. And Auburn, for the most part, played teams against whom they “should” win.

Maybe because I’m no longer on campus during the week prior to the game, or for other reasons, it seems like there just isn’t the same buzz around town or on campus. Of course, we arrive later on Friday afternoon so perhaps just don’t see whatever buzz exists.

And speaking of buzz, or lack thereof, has anyone heard of or read about Auburn’s almost total lack of offense against Arkansas? That was really difficult to watch. But we did enjoy the defense as always and special teams came through so, all in all, a good day.

I don’t know what to expect this week against Southern Miss. Auburn should have the game well in hand by halftime if the offense is even halfway back on track. Seems, though, that it takes Coach Malzahn a few games to get the OL figured out or for the offensive line to figure things out but they all need to. Next week in Starkvegas won’t be a cakewalk.

My wife has a business trip to the real Vegas next week and, being the kind and caring husband that I am, will accompany her. You know, just to make sure she’s okay and all.

Till next time…

WAR EAGLE!!
