Link sAUsage: Soccer? Soccer.

October 11, 2017
The U.S. Men’s National Team lost last night to an tiny island nation and got itself eliminated from the World Cup next year. Now, I’m not a soccer fan, and I don’t understand a lot of the appeal or excitement around it. That said, I won’t poo-poo anyone who wants to watch and enjoy and get involved in it. The people on both sides of the soccer being popular in the States argument are silly. It’s either “The rest of the world likes soccer, why don’t you?” or “They don’t score enough and I don’t want to watch that commie kickball.”
It’s perfectly fine for us all to have our opinions about the most popular game in the world outside of our country. It’s fine if it’s not for everyone. It’s fine to enjoy it. We don’t have to agree on that. We also don’t have to blast the other side and scoff at them for liking/disliking the game itself and the fandom.
One thing we can all agree upon is that IT’S FREAKING FANTASTIC TO BEAT BAMA IN ANYTHING.
I don’t care if it’s hopscotch, tiddlywinks, Risk, Candyland, or average median salary, but if we’re better than Alabama in it, it’s cause for celebration.
Now, on the other side of the coin — football, not futbol — we’ve got a pressing issue coming up this weekend. LSU, at LSU, with a chance to drop the Bayou Bengals at their place for the first time in 18 years. We may be doing it a little short-handed.
Those aren’t all of the injured Auburn players... we can’t forget about Kam Pettway. He’s been noticeably absent lately with that foot injury, but the slack’s been picked up by Kerryon Johnson in a fantastic way. And until Pettway’s fully ready to come back, we probably won’t see him.
What about Kerryon? He’s got a national-best 12 touchdowns this year, with 11 coming in the last three weeks. What’s the secret?
As for Gus, check in here to see what he had to say about LSU at the podium yesterday.
They’re bringing the Hatter back for the 10th anniversary of the national championship team in 2007, so it’ll certainly be weird in Baton Rouge. Voodoo everywhere. How do we overcome that?
Boom. Let’s get it. More on LSU coming later today. War Eagle.
