Link sAUsage: LSU Looming

October 10, 2017
Four days until Auburn visits LSU with a chance for their first victory at the actual Death Valley since Bill Clinton was president. Seriously, it’s been too long between victories in Baton Rouge, and with the nature of this series, I can’t help but wonder if karma had something to do with that.
We pulled out all the stops in that win — Tuberville’s first and last — in Baton Rouge in 1999. With the fake field goal, and the Ronney Daniels catch-fumble-recovery-touchdown play, we used up quite a bit of our luck allotment, and then smoked cigars on their field. You’ll hear LSU fans whine about that, as if we took a knee and broke out the humidor before the clock hit zero, but there were hardly any people save for Auburn fans left in Tiger Stadium when that happened.
It didn’t stop LSU from using it as motivation, however. And they’ve beaten the hell out of us for the most part in Baton Rouge since then. 2001, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015 weren’t really close. 2005 was the John Vaughn game, and 2007 was the Demetrius Byrd game. It’s been ten years since that awful, horrible night, and the Bayou Bengals will be throwing all the mojo they can in that corner come Saturday afternoon.
Ok, well we got him fired last year, literally. No matter!! No hatter! We’re going for our first win their in 18 years, we need to alter history.
How will we do that? Well, we’ve got the most efficient quarterback in the SEC. And one of the top offenses, and one of the top defenses. It looks good.
That last note is something else. Casey Dunn’s been fantastic on the offensive line, keeping defenders out of Jarrett Stidham’s face, pretty much 100% of the time.
It’s helped Stidham out tremendously.
It doesn’t hurt that another one of his guys up front can pretty much do it all.
And it’s great that we’ve got a stud at running back who’s not even 100% and still going on a historic pace.
It’s all part of the reason that Auburn opened up as a nice road favorite.
Big game this weekend, people. War Eagle.
