If the experts are to be believed, Auburn stands no chance tomorrow night against Clemson. We’re too young, too untalented, and quite simply, just too disappointing in 2015 to put up any kind of fight against the mighty Clemson Tigers. It’s certainly a statement to how a previous season’s performance can shift the perception of a program. Deshaun Watson may as well have his name on the 2016 Heisman Trophy already and Auburn should be packing Gus Malzahn’s bags for him.
If the experts were to be believed, one might think Auburn hadn’t recruited a single athlete worth mentioning the past 3 years. Jovon Robinson has been dismissed from the team and John Franklin III not prevailing in Auburn’s quarterback battle certainly added fuel to the doom and gloom fires that burn throughout the major news outlets forecasting an abysmal year for the Auburn Tigers. It would appear that Auburn’s tragic demise into the cellar of the SEC West had been scripted long ago.
If the experts are to be believed, Sean White is the harbinger of death to Malzahn’s fledgling, comatose offense. Sean White is slow. Sean White can’t run the read-option. Sean White is just Chris Todd 2.0 – No arm. No athletic ability. No Hope.
The beauty of the situation is that Auburn sits exactly where it performs best. I thought that analysts would have grown tired by now of counting this program out when all its chips are down and everything is on the line, but I’m completely in favor of serving them a healthy reminder tomorrow night. And I feel like Auburn will do just that.
Gus Malzahn enters the 2016 season with a lot of question marks surrounding himself and this program. He, more than anyone else, knows the importance of putting Auburn back on track. I think we see his best coaching job this season since he arrived in 2013. A reunion with his offensive line coach and fellow co-offensive coordinator from Tulsa, Herb Hand, signals a return to the Malzahn offense we’ve all come to know and love.
The defense is going to impress this year. They are going to keep us in games and buy our offense some time to develop some rhythm. Be very excited about Auburn’s defensive line. They will be very good this year – better than they have been in nearly a decade. Don’t sleep on this Auburn defense. Even with the attrition in the secondary, I think they have a chance to be something very special this year.
There’s not much else that can be said. It’s nearly game time. Auburn is playing for respect tomorrow night and to serve notice to the rest of the SEC that the rumors of their demise have been greatly exaggerated. I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s still plenty of magic to be had under the lights at Jordan-Hare.
War Eagle! Beat Clemson!
