Ask any dentist about the flossing thing and they’ll bear their teeth and hate you. Yes, they saw the story. No, they don’t agree. Yes, they’re worried for the world.
Or they were until a couple of weeks ago. Because according to a website that bills itself as “the world’s most comprehensive resource for dental professionals,” the image of the Blessed Individual extracting the pulp of his halftime oranges during that Thursday night Panthers-Broncos game has single-handedly made flossing relevant again in our meme hungry minds.

“Newton flossing on the sidelines was big news for the dental world,” writes Iman Sadri, DDS.
“The reputation of flossing was damaged with one AP article, and restored with one viral image of an NFL MVP flossing on the sidelines. It’s interesting to note that Cam Newton is almost never seen wearing a protective mouth guard during NFL games. His “Hollywood smile” may not be protected mid-game, but his dental hygiene certainly will be.”
