Auburn adds another to the 2021 class

The junior college season just ended with Hutchinson Community College capturing their first ever National Championship with a come from behind win over Snow College. The top defender off that championship defense is now headed to the Plains. This evening, 3-star JUCO CB Roterius Torrence announced his intentions to be an Auburn Tiger.

Torrence was a breakout star this spring in the JUCO ranks. His performance got him noticed by Tennessee’s new staff who offered and landed him two weeks ago. However, when the Tigers came calling last week he decided to step back from the pledge and instead return to his home state.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Torrence is as imposing a figure as you will find at cornerback. Standing 6’4” and weighing 195 lbs, he’s not afraid to get physical with wide receivers. He’s an elite press corner who excels at disrupting wide receiver’s releases and taking them completely out of the play. When a wideout does avoid the jam, Torrence has the ability to stick to his hip pocket and make a play on the ball. His combination of length and speed make him a unique weapon at cornerback. If his speed doesn’t fully translate to the SEC, I could easily see him moving to boundary safety where his size and physicality would allow to excel in run support.

The Class

Torrence has four years to play three so while he’s a JUCO addition he’s still got plenty of eligibility remaining. He’s now the 6th defensive back Auburn has added to the 2021 roster since Derek Mason was hired. It’s clear that while Mason is high on those top five returners in Auburn’s defensive backfield, he had some concerns for the future. He’s now pretty much addressed those concerns and rebuilt Auburn’s 2 deep in the secondary.

I still don’t think Auburn’s done adding players to this year’s roster. The Tigers are still hunting for offensive line and wide receiver help. They also continue to evaluate any player that jumps into the portal to see if he can help the Tigers. Don’t be surprised if Auburn adds at least two more players before the start of fall camp.

War Eagle Roterius!
