Tigers add a much needed offensive tackle commit.

There’s something beautifully poetic about the first commitment from the high school ranks in the Bryan Harsin era being an offensive tackle. Maybe change has truly arrived.

This evening, 3-star OT Colby Smith announced on social media that he will be signing with the Auburn Tigers this Wednesday.

Smith committed to Tennessee back in May when new Auburn offensive line coach Will Friend was still working in Knoxville. Following Jeremy Pruitt’s firing earlier this month, Smith elected to reopen his recruitment, allowing Auburn to jump into the race late.

Highlights

Scouting Report

First off, Smith is a big fella. At 6’7” 315 lbs, Smith checks all the physical boxes of a future SEC tackle. At that size, Smith is an excellent athlete, playing both ways for his high school program. Possessing a long reach, Smith is a nightmare to get around on the edge and has quick enough feet to get in position to put those big paws on a would be rusher. Like most kids his size coming out of high school, he’ll have to work on not bending at the waist so much and will need to continue to get stronger. But Smith is the exact type of prospect Auburn just hasn’t been signing these last 4 recruiting cycles. This is a big time addition to Auburn’s 2021 class.

The Class

Not a bad way to kickoff this last week of the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Tigers now have two offensive line commits in the 2021 class both with enough size to play outside. I still fully expect Auburn to land at least one OT transfer from the portal, maybe two depending on who becomes available this spring.

War Eagle Colby!
