Bryan Harsin secures his first commitment.

Halfway through the first half of Auburn’s matchup with #2 Baylor on the hardwood, Auburn football got some good news. Former Northwestern defense end Andrew “Eku” Leota plans to play for Auburn in 2021.

Leota will graduate from Northwestern this spring and is expected to enroll at Auburn over the summer. Thanks to the COVID-19 related eligibility rules for the 2020 season, the North Carolina native will have 3 years of eligibility remaining when he arrives on the Plains.

This is a big first pickup for new Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin. While Auburn’s defenses have been outstanding under Kevin Steele, they’ve lacked a legitimate edge rusher since 2017. That problem really reared its head this past fall when the Tigers defense consistently failed to get off the field on 3rd down.

Leota was a pass rush specialist for the Wildcats leading the nation’s best defense in sacks in 2020 with four. His 6.5 career sacks is more than any player currently on Auburn’s roster. He’ll come in to compete with Derick Hall at the BUCK/STUD/OLB position this fall.

War Eagle Eku!
