2022 5-star Quarterback Chooses UGA Over Auburn

Less than ideal...

When news broke that Mike Bobo was leaving South Carolina to come to the Plains, one of the positive spins is that it would give Auburn a very good chance at landing the #1 dual threat QB in the 2022 class Gunner Stockton. In fact, not long after Bobo’s departure Stockton reopened his recruitment.

Bryan Harsin found himself in his first high profile recruiting showdown with Kirby Smart. Unfortunately, it went the same way most of those battles have gone for Auburn in recent years.

There’s no spinning this loss. Stockton was the number one name on Auburn’s board and someone the Tigers felt good about landing just a week ago. Losing him to UGA, who signed a life long Auburn fan in 5-star Brock Vandagriff in the 2021 class, makes it even tougher to swallow.

The good news is there are still some talented QB prospects in the 2022 class that Auburn has a good chance of signing. Auburn re-offered 4-star Jacurri Brown this morning, who was trending towards Florida until offensive coordinator Brian Johnson left for the NFL. There’s also AU legacy 4-star Tanner Bailey who is waiting on an offer from this new staff. If it comes, Auburn might be tough to beat though Alabama will most certainly be a factor as well. I think 3-star Holden Greiner is a name to monitor as well.

War Eagle!
