BOOM! Jabari Smith commits to Auburn Basketball!

247 Sports

The Top PF in America chooses Auburn!!! A massive win for Bruce and the Tigers basketball program.

BOOM!

While the other side of the state has seen their fair share of commitments over the last 6 months, the Tigers have come up empty handed on several of their targets. That said, the Tigers don’t have many spots for 2021 with no seniors on next year’s roster and only 1 junior so Bruce Pearl and company has had to pick and choose carefully who to recruit in the 2021 class. But today, they landed their biggest target and won yet another recruiting battle in the Atlanta area.

6’10” Power Forward Jabari Smith from Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia has chosen to commit to the Auburn Tigers!

Smith is currently the 5th ranked player in America for the Class of 2021 to according 247 Sports. He is the top player out of the state of Georgia and the country’s top Power Forward. Smith chose Auburn over Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Jabari was on hand inside Auburn Arena for the Auburn-Tennessee game, a game where the Tigers came back from a double digit deficit in the 2nd half.

Smith has USA Basketball experience as well as he was a member of the 2019 U16 USA National Team. That team won gold in Brazil where he was the second leading scorer averaging 13.8 PPG, along with 6.2 RPG.

He was a first team selection on the Class AAAA all-state team by several publications averaging 24.5 PPG and 10.8 RPG as a High School Junior. He plays on the Atlanta Celtics AAU team as well which has produced several NBA players including Dwight Howard and Josh Smith.

He’s an underrated defender who can also make shots on the perimeter quite well for a big guy. With those two intangibles (and more), he will fit very well with the style of play you see at Auburn.

With Smith’s commitment, he would be the highest ranked recruit to sign with Auburn taking that distinction from Sharife Cooper who will begin his Auburn career next month.

Welcome to the Auburn family Jabari and War Eagle!
