NCAA Basketball: Auburn at Missouri Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn avenged their loss in the previous SEC Tournament.

January 24, 2018 - Columbia, Missouri

Auburn handled Missouri in both regular season meetings the previous season but saw their 2016-2017 come to a sudden end at the hands of this Missouri squad in Round 1 of the SEC Tournament. This was a revenge game.

The first 11 minutes saw the lead swap back and forth on several occasions before a Bryce Brown 3 3-pointer put Auburn ahead to stay. It was the start of an 8-0 run that included a pair of baskets from Desean Murray to put Auburn up 25-18 with 7 minutes left in the 1st half. Murray was huge early in this game providing the scoring while others took time getting heated up around him.

Auburn led 41-36 at halftime behind 13 points from Murray.

In the 2nd half, Auburn would build a 9 point lead twice but couldn’t get over the hump of leading by double digits as Missouri cut the lead down to 1 twice.

Auburn led 54-52 at the Under 12 timeout but Auburn would then play one of its best 4 minute stretches of the season to put this game out of reach. A 2-pointer by Chuma Okeke got the run started and Jared Harper would hit a 3 on Auburn’s next possession. Auburn would score again on their next trip down the floor with Okeke hitting a 3 and then Mustapha Heron got a steal and dunk to give Auburn’s its first 10 point lead at 64-54. Missouri would call timeout but it wouldn’t help them.

After another turnover from Missouri, Harper would hit 3s on back-to-back possessions and then Davion Mitchell would provide some offense hitting 2 consecutive buckets and what was a 54-52 lead had suddenly ballooned to a 74-54 Auburn lead with under 8 minutes to play.

Missouri would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way as 3s from Jared Harper and Chuma Okeke stopped any possible rally from the home team.

Jared Harper hit 5 3s on the night and led Auburn with 21 points with 18 of those coming in the 2nd half. Bryce Brown and Desean Murray each finished with 16 points. Mustapha Heron had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Chuma Okeke added 10 points off the bench.
