NCAA Basketball: Auburn at Missouri Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn recorded their first ever win at Mizzou on this night!

January 10, 2017 - Columbia, Missouri

Today, we turn the calendar over to 2017 and begin to look back at Auburn wins from the 2016-2017 SEC season!! After the Tigers started 0-3 in the league with losses to Georgia, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. Auburn needed to break the streak as a trip to Rupp Arena loomed following the Missouri game. Missouri was struggling mightily as well so this was a very winnable game for Auburn.

A key in this game was bench contribution for Auburn as the bench outscored the starters 43-34 in the contest.

Bryce Brown came off the bench to knock down a trio of 3-pointers to lead Auburn at halftime with 9 points. Horace Spencer had 6 points off the bench making all 3 of his shots. As for the game, Missouri led 35-34 going to the locker room.

Missouri built a 44-38 lead 5 minutes into the second half before Auburn answered with a 9-0 run in which Auburn took the lead on Brown’s 4th 3-pointer of the evening and got buckets from Spencer and LaRon Smith, another bench contribution. Auburn would lead by as much as 5 twice and Missouri would get it tied back up with 2:27 to go at 66 apiece.

Mustapha Heron would knock down a 3-pointer with 2:16 and would score again on the next possession after a block from Horace Spencer on the defensive side which put Auburn up for good. Free throws from Heron, Jared Harper and Ronnie Johnson would ice it down the stretch and Auburn got out of Missouri with a 5-point win and their first ever win in Columbia, Missouri. More importantly, it broke a 3-game losing streak and gave Auburn their 1st SEC win of the season.

Mustapha Heron led Auburn with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Bryce Brown hit 4 3s to score 13 points. Ronnie Johnson also scored 13 off the bench while Horace Spencer and Jared Harper each added 10 points.

One other statistic from this game: 12 blocked shots. Austin Wiley had 4 blocks while Anfernee McLemore and Spencer each had 3.

Here are the highlights!

Tomorrow at #88, we will talk about a milestone win for Bruce Pearl.
