Auburn poured it on in a blowout win in Baton Rouge!

February 21, 2017 - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

In yesterday’s article, Ryan talked about Auburn’s standing regarding postseason play after a win over Mississippi State put the Tigers at 16-8 on the season. With 7 games to go, the Tigers were looking at a possible NIT berth at that point. But Auburn entered Baton Rouge having lost the next 3 games against Ole Miss, Florida and Texas A&M to sit at 16-11, 5-9 in the SEC on the season.

LSU was in the midst of an awful season so this was a very winnable game for Auburn and they didn’t disappoint.

The Tigers shot 14-31 from 3 in this one and set the tone early with 3-pointers by Danjel Purifoy, Bryce Brown and T.J. Lang in the game’s first 4 minutes. Auburn built a 12 point lead in the 1st half but LSU would come back to tie the game on multiple occasions but Auburn led 45-42 behind a balanced scoring effort as 4 Tigers led the way with 7 1st-half points.

After LSU tied the game at 47 early in the 2nd half, Auburn went on a 10-0 run with the help of 3-point shooting by Bryce Brown who knocked down a pair of 3s during the run. LSU would get no closer than 6 as Auburn continued to pull away thanks to outstanding 3-point shooting. Danjel Purifoy made some big 3s when LSU seemingly looked to make a run to keep the foot on the gas. Bryce Brown’s last 3 of the game would give Auburn it’s largest lead of the game at 26 and outscored LSU in the 2nd half 53-33. The 23 point win is the largest margin of victory for Auburn ever in Baton Rouge.

Ronnie Johnson led 5 Auburn Tigers in double-figures with 17 points. Bryce Brown made 5 3-pointers to score 15 while Danjel Purifoy also had 15 points along with 7 rebounds. T.J. Dunans had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Mustapha Heron had 10 points and 9 rebounds while big men Austin Wiley and Anfernee McLemore each had 9 points.

Here are the highlights!

Tomorrow at #82, we will look at Auburn’s final victory of the 2016-2017 season.
