Auburn opened the Charleston Classic with a W!
November 16, 2017 - Charleston, South Carolina
After their season opening win against Norfolk State (at least one school in Alabama can beat the Spartans), the Tigers headed to Charleston to begin their run in the Charleston Classic starting with Indiana State.
The Tigers shot 50% from the field in the 1st half and 5 players had at least 7 points as Auburn jumped out to a 48-27 halftime lead. The Tigers were able to do most of that inside as Auburn was just 3-11 from 3 in the half.
Chuma Okeke had a really good game off the bench knocking down a pair of 3s on his way to an 11 point, 6 rebound game. But the star on this day was Desean Murray. Murray had his first double-double as an Auburn Tiger scoring 14 points with 12 rebounds. He made both of his 3-point attempts and all 4 of his free throws. While a undersized 4, Murray was a blessing for Auburn in the 2017-2018 for his ability to rebound and constantly battle for 50-50 balls.
The Sycamores had no answer for Auburn in the 2nd half, as the Tigers led by as much as 27 on 4 different occasions in the contest.
The exclamation point came with about 3 minutes to go when a fast-break set up the first of many alley-oops to Malik Dunbar over the course of his 2 years at Auburn.
Bryce Brown led Auburn with 15 points, and Mustapha Heron had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Here are the highlights!
Tomorrow at #79, we’ll look back at a game that started a long winning streak for the Auburn Tigers.
