NEW POLL ALERT: Auburn Drops, Family Breathes Sigh of Relief

NCAA Basketball: Auburn at Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Thank heaven.

Hey hey hey hey guess what. Auburn is no longer a top five team in the rankings!

Whoooooo!

Now we can finally get back to supreme radar sub-cruising. We can finally get back to quietly doing our basket hoops, winning a few games, and surprising people.

WHO WANTS TO BE A TOP FIVE TEAM? Not us, obviously. It’s time for Auburn to do what Auburn does best — jump up from the ranks of mediocrity to bite the heels of the media elite, occasionally stealing some glory for ourselves. BESIDES, it’s our history!

But seriously, Auburn seems to have played extremely tight over the last couple of weeks. Yes, two wins over SEC Bulldog teams by double digits is nice, but the win over Vanderbilt was tight, and then this past week was abysmal.

Oh, we were bad. We were real bad. We can now characterize the two losses to Bama and Florida — both on the road — as nothing less than blowouts. We got hosed. Skunked. Punked. Dashed. Rocked. Maybe there were some lingering injury issues, I don’t know. Maybe we just finally came back down to earth after the 15-0 start. Maybe we weren’t all that good to begin with. There could be any number of explanations for what went on over the past week.

And you know what actually makes it feel a little better? Auburn isn’t alone. There were three top five teams at this time last week that are no longer in the same position. Us, Duke, and Butler. We all went a combined 0-6 this past week. That means there was quite the shakeup in the rankings this week, and now a new group of unsuspecting rubes get to deal with the target gracing the meaty spot between their shoulder blades. Here it is:

  1. Baylor
  2. Gonzaga
  3. Kansas
  4. San Diego State
  5. Florida State
  6. Louisville
  7. Dayton
  8. Duke
  9. Villanova
  10. Seton Hall
  11. Michigan State
  12. Oregon
  13. Butler
  14. West Virginia
  15. Kentucky
  16. Auburn
  17. Maryland
  18. Texas Tech
  19. Iowa
  20. Memphis
  21. Illinois
  22. Arizona
  23. Colorado
  24. Rutgers
  25. Houston

Just two SEC teams in the rankings this week, us and the Cats, and we’ll play them in a couple weeks. Thankfully this week we’ve got ourselves a couple of home games. Let’s turn those into wins and find ourselves once again. War Eagle.
