Few Things in Life Feel Better Than Beating Georgia … Auburn 82 – UGa 60

There was thunder in Auburn Saturday but it didn’t come from the strong storms that swept through the Plains. It was the roar of the sell out crowd inside Auburn Arena as the Tigers dominated their oldest rival in a a 82 – 60 blowout victory over Georgia.

After the Bulldogs (10-4) scored a big road victory against Memphis last Saturday, some expected a more contested game. And that looked to be the case in the early going as Auburn got off to a slow start before overpowering the Dogs to etch their 15th straight win. 

The victory marked the best opening season record for Auburn in 21 years. Once again the defense shined by holding the league’s fourth highest scoring team to 20 points below their season average. The Tiger D forced the Dogs into 14 turnovers leading to 15 points. 

When the offense got going, it was Samir Doughy leading the charge. The senior scored 17 points, had four assist and pulled down six rebounds. However, the MVP for the Tigers had to be the Auburn bench. If Auburn is going to be a great team, they have to have a strong performance from the bench and they got that Saturday.

The initial spark came from Anfernee McLemore. Auburn was trailing Georgia 14-6 when he ignited the Tigers with a monster dunk. All toll, the bench contributed 34 points with McLemore and Allen Flanigan both scoring 12 points and tallying six rebounds a piece. Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. “It was a great win … Anytime you beat Georgia, it matters.”

The victory keeps Auburn as one of two undefeated teams remaining in college basketball. The Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa Wednesday to face their biggest rival. Tipoff will be at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

For Auburn fans few things feel better than a dominating win over their oldest rival; unless it’s a win over the Tide. War Eagle …
