Chad Morris gets his guy

When Chad Morris was named Auburn’s offensive coordinator back in December, most of the work for this 2020 class was already done, especially on the offensive side of the ball. That meant he had very few spots remaining to add any of his own high priority targets to this class. Even with such limited room, he quickly made 4* TE Brandon Frazier a must get target for the Tigers in this class. Today, Frazier announced his intentions to be an Auburn Tiger.

Frazier was committed to Arkansas in May but backed off that pledge when Morris was ousted. The Hogs tried to get him back on board making a strong late run behind new head coach Sam Pittman and offensive coordinator Kendall Briles. Texas Tech was also a major factor in this race and thought to be Auburn’s top competition heading into this week. But in the end, Frazier’s relationship with Morris paired with the opportunity to play in the SEC was too much for anyone to overcome.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Frazier is a big kid at 6’7” 250 lbs. You don’t expect to see a kid with those measurables making huge plays after the catch but Frazier is a special athlete who possesses surprising top end speed. Give him a crease and he can take it to the house. He’s also a fantastic blocker in space. What really jumps out though when watching his tape is where he’s often aligned in his high school’s offense. McKinney North uses him just like Chad Morris likes to use his tight ends at that 3-back or H-back position. He can also split out wide or line up on the line of scrimmage. Frazier is a perfect fit for what Morris wants at the 3-back spot moving forward.

The Class

Frazier is the 25th member of Auburn’s 2020 class. The Tigers likely have room for only 2 more prospects with one of those spots reserved for 5* OT Broderick Jones. Frazier is also Auburn’s 2nd tight signee of this class joining J.J. Pegues and the 4th in the past 2 classes. That’s one of the major storylines I am keeping an eye on heading into next season. Auburn has been slowly phasing out the fullback in its offense in exchange for a tight end since 2017. That transition looks to be complete and Morris will have a solid room of tight ends to use in his offense next season.

War Eagle Brandon!
