Auburn in the Pros - Volume 4

Opelika-Auburn News

Here’s a look at how some of our professional Auburn Tigers are doing, with some new additions!

If you have followed me on Twitter (ShootyHoopsWill), you will notice that I’ve been keeping track of some of Auburn’s former players, primarily those from last year’s roster. Here’s what’s going on with #AuburninthePros!

Jared Harper

21.3 PPG, 5.5 APG, 2.6 RPG

Jared Harper continues to carry the load for the Northern Arizona Suns, running the point. After a 14 game losing streak to end 2019, 2020 has been better as the Suns are 5-3 so far in the calendar year. Harper has the most 20 points in the G-League this season as he’s done that in 17 of his 24 games this season. Jared is also shooting 35% from 3-point range. He’s sitting on the two-day deal with the Suns but has spent only a few days of the possible 45 days he can spend on the roster so hopefully sooner rather than later, Jared will finally get the call-up he richly deserves. Here’s a look at his most recent performance on Saturday.

Bryce Brown

15.4 PPG, 3.5 RPG 2.3 APG

You may remember Bryce Brown’s 11-11 3-point performance back on December 7th in a game where he scored 43 points. It’s the most 3-pointers in a game ever by one player without a miss. If not, relive it here!

Despite playing on a team of extremely talented and much more hyped players such as Tacko Fall, Tremont Waters, Yante Maten, and Carsen Edwards, Bryce has still been able to get off plenty of 3-pointers while continuing to play solid defense. He’s a 40.1% 3-point shooter on the season overall.

Unfortunately for Bryce, he sprained his ankle in the team’s win last Thursday and has missed the last 2 games. It’s unclear when he will return to the Red Claws starting lineup but perhaps we will see him in Boston or somewhere else in the NBA before the year is over?

Horace Spencer

22 games Total: 12 PPG, 11.5 RPG

14 games in La Liga: 14.9 PPG, 12.6 RPG

Horace Spencer has become a double-double machine in Argentina. He has scored in double-figures in all 14 La Liga games for Atenas. He has 9 double-doubles in league play but Sunday night’s performance may have been his most impressive.

25 Rebounds!!! If you count offensive and defensive rebounds as seprate stats, you can say Horace had a triple-double Sunday night. It was best rebounding performance of the season and most rebounds he’s recording on either the college or professional ranks. He had a 17 rebound game on January 12th which tied his college high which he recorded his senior season ast Auburn with 17 rebounds. Horace also had a 24 point, 15 rebound game back on December 9th. He has 7 La Liga games of 14 or more rebounds as well.

Malik Dunbar

15.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.7 APG

On Saturday, #ClassicMalik went international.

Speaking of that Buzzer Beater.....

Malik has endeared himself very well to playing in Germany and while he was much more of a role player while in Auburn, he has focused more on being a scorer as he plays in Germany. He has a pair of 30+ point games and has scored in double figures in 14 of his 19 games this season. Recently, he spoke about his time in Germany and how his time in Auburn helped make him the player he has become.

In addition, I’ve recently began to keep up with a couple more former Tigers, Kenny Gabriel and Tyler Harris.

Kenny Gabriel

8.8 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.1 APG

After several years of playing overseas, Kenny made his way back to the United States this year finding a role off the bench for the College Park Skyhawks, G-League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. Kenny has played a pivotal role off the bench for the team while also providing veteran leadership.

Unfortunately for Kenny, he suffered a knee injury last Wednesday and has missed the last couple of games for the Skyhawks. It’s unclear when he will return to the lineup for College Park.

Tyler Harris

16.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.5 APG

Recently, Tyler Harris, who played a huge role in Auburn’s 75-70 court storming win over Kentucky back in 2016 made his way to Argentina as he continues his professional basketball career. The stats above are his average for his first 2 games with Penarol.

While we won’t get a Jared Harper vs Bryce Brown matchup in the G-League this year (how does that happen?), we will get a Tyler Harris vs Horace Spencer matchup in Argentina on March 8th.

As always, War Eagle Jared, Bryce, Horace, Malik, Kenny and Tyler!
