It is Tune Up Day!

A week before the Iron Bowl, Auburn hosts Samford.

War Eagle, everybody! This week, the Auburn Tigers will host the Samford Bulldogs at Jordan Hare Stadium. Stakes in this game are marginal for both teams. Auburn certainly would hate suffering its first ever loss to an FCS team. Samford would love to pull the upset, and finish their season at 6-6. Realistically, Auburn wins this one by several touchdowns.

Auburn’s remaining schedule is Samford and Alabama. Beating Samford would get Auburn to 8-4, where Auburn has rested for much of this decade at the end of the regular season. A win over Alabama would make the season excellent. Samford has not had much luck playing Auburn over the history of the series. In 1927, Samford managed a 9-9 tie. Other than that, Samford has lost the other 27 times it has played Auburn.

The real question this week is how much Auburn will work on its late season high octane passing attack that resulted in a couple of 4th quarter scores against Georgia last weekend. Or, will Auburn be content to grind out a boring win over Samford by running most of the time and eating the clock up. We shall see, today. I vote for polishing an offense that will be needed to keep pace with Alabama the next week, as the Crimson Tiders are averaging 46.8 points per game this season. Three yards and a cloud of turf will not get the job done, against this squad.

A few weeks ago, there were complaints all around about tepid fan support against Ole Miss. I’m not sure we won’t see a lot of empty seats in this game against Samford. It won’t be as cold as the last couple of games, with temps expected in the mid 60sF. However, a big band of rain will be moving through the state tomorrow, and periodic showers are likely. I will miss the entire game thread this week. Duty calls at work. This game will kick off at 11:00 AM, Central Standard Time, and will be televised on the SEC Network.
