28 Days to Tip-Off - Bryce Brown

Wade Rackley

It’s another Bryce Brown Appreciation Post!

Today marks 4 more weeks until the return of Auburn Basketball and with football on a bye week this week, we need something fun to talk about. Insert Bryce Brown shooting that thing from way Downtown! At #28, it’s Bryce Brown’s game against UAB in December 2017.

Total Points: 27

Date: December 9, 2017

Opponent: UAB

Final Score: Auburn 85 UAB 80

So to be honest, I remember wondering if this game was going to be played when it was scheduled because if you remember, we had some winter weather and dare I say, a small amount of snow in Auburn the night before. It was a cold day outside, but Bryce Brown was on fire from 3-point range!

Before the game, we learned that Mustapha Heron wouldn’t play in this game and so Auburn’s short bench was even shorter. This meant guys had to step up and fill the void left by Heron’s absence.

For the game, Bryce was 8-14 from the field, 6-9 from 3-point range, and 5-7 from the free throw line. 7 minutes into the game, Auburn led 18-11 and Bryce had yet to get on the scoreboard. The next 13 minutes would be the Bryce Brown Show.

He hit a 3 with 12:53 left, his first points of the game, and then scored Auburn’s next 12 points to give 15 points in a row over a stretch of 5 minutes and 30 seconds. In Bryce’s personal 15 point run, he made 3 3-pointers, a jumper and 4 free throws. Bryce would hit his 4th 3-pointer of the half with 5:32 left to give Auburn a 38-24 lead. Bryce would hit a 5th 3-pointer and then he did this...

Can’t pass up a moment to pay homage to #Classic Malik, but the pass and celebration were spectacular.

Bryce finished his monster first half with a layup with 2 seconds left in the half to give Auburn a 47-40 halftime lead. Bryce had 23 of Auburn’s 47 points in the 1st half and it was quite an incredible performance to witness first-hand.

Bryce hit his 6th and final 3 to start the scoring in the 2nd half and made 1 free throw with 12 minutes left to give him 27 points on the afternoon. Auburn had a 15 point lead in this game but UAB continued to battle back into the game. Auburn’s lead would diminish to 1, but the Tigers were able to hang on and beat the Blazers inside Auburn Arena.

After a 4-year series, this will be the first year Auburn and UAB don’t play each other since the 2015-2016 season and that’s a bit unfortunate but hopefully we’ll see these two teams on the court together sometime soon.

Tomorrow at #27, Ryan Sterritt will share his thoughts on a game from a guy that’s gonna do big things for Auburn this year.
