Tip-Off Countdown: Introduction

NCAA Basketball: Washington at Auburn Julie Bennett-USA TODAY Sports

You’ve all seen our Football Countdowns, why not do a Basketball one?

Are you ready for some Auburn Tiger Basketball??? I know I am!

I’m excited to be back writing more frequently as I get ready for my 3rd season of Auburn Basketball coverage here at College and Magnolia!

I know we are in the midst of football season but it’s never too early to look ahead to basketball season. For the last two summers, we here at College and Magnolia have done a series counting down the days to football season. This year, we focused on the Top 100 football recruits since the year 2000.

As the series began this year, I realized that I wanted to do a series similar to this but for basketball. After all, Auburn is coming off the program’s first ever trip to the Final Four and has a ton of momentum right now. So, with the help of fellow C&M writer Ryan Sterritt, we are excited to announce that we’ll be doing a countdown series for basketball this season.

The Topic: Highest Individual Scoring Games over the past Decade.

Beginning on Monday, we will countdown from 50-1 the best scoring outputs from Auburn players in a game over the past 10 years.

So how is this going to work?

Well, there have actually been 53 occasions where an Auburn player has scored 25 points in a game. However, one player scored 25 points on 4 separate occasions so we will start the series by looking back at those 4 games from that individual on Monday. You will notice that there will be several days when we talk about guys who scored 25 points, or 26 points, and so on in a game. So to try and focus on one game a day, where they are placed on the list was determined by the final result of the actual game (this will make more sense once the countdown gets underway).

You will see names familiar to all Auburn fans such as Bryce Brown and Jared Harper but also pay tribute to some players who were here at Auburn during the tough times such as KT Harrell, Chris Denson, and Frankie Sullivan. There’s also some names on this list that will surprise you a bit. You will also see a couple players on the current roster make an appearance or two as well.

I’m excited to kick this off on Monday and hopefully we’ll be coming off a big homecoming football win against Kent State. War Eagle!
