BOOM!!! 4-Star Running Back Tank Bigsby Commits to Auburn!

GO CRAZY CADILLAC! GO CRAZY!

Two months ago, it seemed absurd to think 4* RB Tank Bigsby would commit to Auburn. He was thought to be a heavy South Carolina lean (there were even rumors of a commit video) and if any team could steal him away it would be the instate Bulldogs. In fact, I wrote this about Bigsby following his official visit:

I still think though that if UGA decides to push hard he could stay instate. Auburn will continue to pursue but as of now I am not sure they will have a tank coming out of the backfield next season.

About that...

This is a massive win for new Auburn running back coach Carnell Williams. Going head to head against Dell McGee (Auburn alum now serving as UGA’s running back coach) has not gone well for the Tigers (really anyone honestly) but apparently that official visit in early June was a game changer.

Gus Malzahn decided to move Tim Horton to an off the field role this past offseason (he eventually left for the Vanderbilt running back coach job) so that he could add a more dynamic recruiter to the staff. Not that Horton was bad per se (he definitely was not) but with the recruiting talent on rival staffs, Malzahn apparently felt the need to beef up the recruiting prowess of his own staff. While we still have to see what kind of coach Cadillac might be, with the commitments of 2021 4* RB Armoni Goodwin and now Bigsby, he’s proving that he can hold his own on the trail.

Highlights

Scouting Report

Bigsby is as complete a back as you will find in this class. While I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s elite at one thing, he’s durn good at pretty much all of it. Well built at 6’0” 210 lbs, he’s got the power to pound the rock between the tackles yet is elusive in open space. He’s been insanely productive for his powerhouse high school program Callaway, rushing for over 2,000 yards last year and 22 TDs. Bigsby showed at The Opening in early July that he can be an outstanding pass catcher out of the backfield too and was named the top running back at the event by 247 Sports. He will be day 1 ready for the Tigers when he steps on campus next spring.

The Class

With Bigsby’s commit, Auburn has vaulted from #12 in the 247 Composite class rankings to #6. It’s amazing how much Auburn’s recruiting has improved since April. They had lost four commits up to that point and didn’t seem to be a major factor for many of their top remaining targets. A top 15 class was the hope but everything changed after Big Cat Weekend. Since that event, Auburn has been on an absolute roll and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

With a feature back on board, Auburn is almost done on the offensive side of the ball. They would like to take a tight end in this class and are currently the leaders for 4* TE JJ Pegues. If 4* WR EJ Williams wanted on board in late August, Auburn would have no problem taking him. The only other position Auburn might add another name is on the offensive line but that is not a certainty. Bottom line is Auburn got most of their offensive class committed before the season started, a must in today’s early signing period world.

War Eagle Tank!
