62 Days to Kickoff! - Bart Eddins

Hey, he left with one more ring than his brother and father.

As we continue our march to kickoff, we take a look at the top 100 recruits to sign with Auburn of all-time*. The rankings are based on 247’s composite recruit rankings, which unfortunately only date back to 2000.

THE RECRUIT

Even 247 is a bit confused as to what Bart Eddins was when he came out of high school, and that’s a bit indicative of his career on the Plains as well. You can see that he was a highly-ranked recruit, a top-five player in Alabama at defensive tackle, and a five-star player by some publications around the country.

Bart was a legacy, and there wasn’t much doubt that he’d head to Auburn. After all, his dad Liston had played for the Tigers back in the 70s, and his brother Bret had one of the all-time crushing tackles in Auburn history when he took down Marcus Randall on a blindside sack in the 2004 LSU game.

There was one black sheep (or black razorback), as Blake Eddins played basketball at Arkansas, but the family was all Auburn. Bart committed to the Tigers in the summer of 2005, and signed with the Tigers in 2006.

THE PLAYER

Bart Eddins never really saw much time for the Tigers, as he came in as part of a HEAVY defensive line class. From the 2006 signees, Greg Smith (the legend), Jemarcus Ricks, Byron Isom, Zach Clayton, and Mike Blanc were all listed at defensive tackle. No matter how you sliced it, it was going to be a crowded front line for Auburn, but that’s how Tommy Tuberville liked it.

Tubs was of the opinion that defensive linemen make great offensive lineman, and he would turn one of the above names into a huge player for the Tigers. Byron Isom would swap sides and play offense, becoming a starter on the national championship line in 2010. Bart Eddins would do the same, although his production would be much more limited.

Eddins only really saw the field in mop-up duty, as the offensive line had a very solid unit during the 2010 season. He would graduate with a ring and an undefeated season, however.
