Auburn Baseball Wins Final Home Game in Walk-off Fashion

With the game tied at 7- all, Everett Lau hit a pinch-hit, walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Auburn an 11^th inning 8-7 victory over North Alabama in the Tigers final home game Tuesday. Lau drove the ball down the left field line to score Ryan Bliss from third and end the game. It was the Tigers fourth walk-off win this year.

Will Holland sent the game into extra innings when he hit a two-strike pitch with two outs into right field to score Jarrett Eaton from second base. Probably just as crucial was Steven Williams three-run homer in the second cutting UNA’s 5-0 lead to two runs.
Williams had three RBI’s on two hits and the home run was his sixth of the season.

Keys for the Tigers moving forward may be the resurgence of these two hitters. While both have broken out of a slump, Holland in particular has turned it around. He has had five multi hits in the last seven games, including a solo home run that tied the game in the third. It was his fifth moon shot in the last 14 games.

Coach Butch Thompson said in his post game remarks that he was proud of the way his club kept fighting. “They hung in there,” said Thompson. “And they found a way to win the ballgame.”

Auburn’s (31-21) regular season concludes in Baton Rouge with a three-game series against No. 20 LSU (32-21) beginning Thursday at 6:30 CT on the SEC Network.  The Tigers will need the continued presence at the plate from Williams and Holland.

Hopefully their success will help freshman All-American The Gift Of Tai Chi to sanp out of his hitting slump. If the three can get it going, expect the Tigers to make some noise in the post season.
