Next Year’s Auburn-Washington Basketball Game Postponed

Auburn was supposed to play in Seattle sometime in December but the game has been moved back a year.

A little late afternoon news coming out today as Jon Rothstein has reported that Auburn’s scheduled game with Washington for next season has been moved back a year.

The game was scheduled to be played in Seattle for sometime in December on a date that hadn’t been finalized yet. Washington has one of the top freshmen classes coming in this next year as does Auburn so this was shaping up to be one of the better non-conference matchups going into next season, so this is a disappointing development.

A few things are possible here.

  1. Perhaps Auburn is working on scheduling another opponent that conflicted with the timing of this game.
  2. Perhaps there was a conflict on Washington’s end, although with the game scheduled to be played in Seattle, I highly doubt that.
  3. Another possibility is Auburn has learned that they’ve been slated to play on the road in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge next January. Those matchups will be announced sometime in May.

Last year’s matchup with Washington was the premier home non-conference game on Auburn’s schedule. On November 9th, in the first ever non-conference game held inside Auburn Arena featuring 2 Top 25 teams, #11 Auburn beat #25 Washington 88-66.
