Tigers land talented dual threat QB from Florida.
One of the big challenges the coaching staff faced this 2020 cycle was finding a quarterback to sign. Auburn will enter the 2019 season with three freshman (two being redshirts) QBs on the roster so early playing time will be pretty hard to come by. So who would be willing to jump on board and possibly have to wait 2-3 years before getting a realistic chance to win the job?
Enter 3* Chayil Garnett.
Following A-Day, the Lake Wales, FL native announced his intention to sign with the Auburn Tigers.

Garnett has long been on Kenny Dillingham’s radar. He landed an offer in late March and immediately started trending to the Tigers. His offer list nor his rating is all that impressive but my understanding is the coaching staff thinks they have a sleeper in this class. Given what Auburn already has on the roster, doesn’t hurt to take a sleeper early if you can get him.

Scouting Report
System fit. That’s what jumps to mind when watching Garnett’s tape. A true dual threat, Garnett possesses a strong arm to stretch a defense vertically but is also explosive in the run game. While not the biggest kid in the world, he’s more than capable of taking some blows as a runner. But what I like most about him is that he’s not looking to scramble at the first hint of trouble. Instead, he will use his feet to keep the play alive long enough for a wide receiver to get open and then drill his target for a big gain. A solid pickup for the Tigers.
The Class
Garnett makes seven commits in the 2020 class for the Tigers. More than likely he’s the only target that will pull the trigger today though keep an eye out on 4* LB Cameron Riley, 3* LB Rodney Groce and 3* OG Tate Johnson. All three are trending to AU at the moment.
It’s big for Auburn to get a QB on board this early. While Garnett might not necessarily have the same star pull that Bo Nix or even Joey Gatewood did previous cycle, it’s typically a big boon to a team’s recruiting efforts when they have their QB of the class committed early in the cycle. Auburn is off to a strong start on the offensive side of the ball with five of their seven 2020 commits being offensive players. Don’t be surprised if that number climbs a bit higher in the coming weeks.
