NEW AP POLL ALERT: Auburn Basketball Still Top Ten

No movement, though.

After a 2-1 week at the Maui Invitational, Auburn basketball stayed right where they were upon entering the week in the AP Poll.

Auburn came into the Maui at 8th in the rankings, and after wins over Xavier and Arizona coupled with a six-point loss to then top-ranked Duke, the Tigers are in the exact same spot.

Here’s the top ten:

  1. Gonzaga
  2. Kansas
  3. Duke
  4. Virginia
  5. Nevada
  6. Tennessee
  7. Michigan
  8. Auburn
  9. Michigan State
  10. Kentucky

The only other SEC team in the poll is Mississippi State at No. 25, while LSU, Arkansas, and Florida are all receiving votes. LSU fell out of the rankings after losing to Florida State and Oklahoma State over the weekend.

For Auburn, the next couple of weeks shouldn’t be that difficult, and the Tigers should be able to get everyone rested up for the start of SEC play. The schedule for Bruce Pearl’s group looks like this the rest of the way in the non-conference portion:

Wednesday 11/28 - Saint Peter’s - 7 PM (234th KenPom)

Tuesday 12/4 - UNC Asheville - 7 PM (327th KenPom)

Saturday 12/8 - Dayton - 7:30 PM (94th KenPom)

Saturday 12/15 - UAB - 6:30 PM (174th KenPom)

Wednesday 12/19 - NC State - 6 PM (35th KenPom)

Saturday 12/22 - Murray State - 3:30 PM (112th KenPom)

Saturday 12/29 - North Florida - 4 PM (199th KenPom)

Auburn’s road leading up to the first SEC game against Ole Miss on January 9th is relatively easy. The highest-ranked team left on the non-conference slate is NC State, and in Raleigh that will be a tough game. Otherwise, Auburn should have no trouble winning the other six games above. It’ll be a bit of a disappointment if the Tigers have more than one when the SEC season arrives.

War Eagle!
