Auburn, Alabama 'even' in recruiting 2020 Hueytown RB Roydell Williams

It could end up being an in-state recruiting battle for Hueytown running back Roydell Williams.

The 4-star 2020 prospect said Auburn and Alabama are "even" in terms of how hard they're recruiting him, with Florida and Mississippi State also in the mix, though he doesn't have a leader right now.

"I wouldn't say (Auburn is recruiting me) a lot harder than other schools, but they're really pushing it right now," Williams said following his visit to the Plains this weekend.

A lifelong Alabama fan, Williams said Auburn has made him its top priority at running back for 2020.

"It means a lot to me because this is one of the top schools in the NCAA (and) SEC," Williams said. "(The visit) went well. Met a lot of people. Bo Nix, wasn't my first time meeting him but just trying to build a relationship. Like they say, at Auburn you got to become a family here."

He likes Auburn's history of 1,000-yard rushers and Heisman Trophy winners as well as the downhill running style of backs in Gus Malzahn's offense.

Williams plans to visit Auburn again during a game weekend this fall, but doesn't plan to make a commitment until after his junior year.

He said what a school offers academically, the coaching staff and the overall environment are the most important factors in making his decision.
