Auburn baseball plummets in national rankings after 3rd straight series loss

Auburn baseball continued its freefall in the national rankings amid the team's tough stretch in recent weeks.

The Tigers fell from No. 15 to No. 23 in the latest Baseball America top 25 after being swept over the weekend by Arkansas, which climbed from No. 9 to No. 4 in the poll. Auburn has now lost three consecutive SEC series for the first time since the final three weeks of the 2016 season, which was Butch Thompson's first on the Plains.

The Tigers have dropped five straight games in SEC play and are now 23-10 on the season, with a 4-8 mark in conference play.

Auburn dropped out of the D1Baseball.com top 25 altogether after being ranked 19th in last week's poll.

In the Baseball America rankings, the Tigers are one of nine SEC team's currently ranked. They are also the lowest-ranked of those nine, which includes No. 1 Florida, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 13 Kentucky, No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 19 LSU, No. 21 Georgia and No. 22 Texas A&M.

Auburn will play a midweek game at Samford on Tuesday before returning home to Plainsman Park to host Mississippi State for a three-game series this weekend.
