Scott Frost: UCF 'ahead' of Auburn in Peach Bowl prep, addresses RB's remarks about SEC speed

Though the entire outgoing UCF coaching staff has been juggling responsibilities recruiting for Nebraska while also preparing for the Peach Bowl, Scott Frost believes his team is ahead of Auburn in terms of preparation and addressed Adrian Killins' remarks about the SEC's lack of speed.

"Auburn didn't been practice for this game until Saturday," Frost told reporters in Orlando on Tuesday. "We practiced (last) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with almost an entire staff. ... We're doing everything and more, that we've done at Oregon in the time I was there and we were at six of these bowl games. We have more coaches at practice, we're practicing on the exact same schedule that we did trying to get ready for these games.

"We're game-planning at the same time and like I said, we're ahead of our opponent because they started practicing on Saturday."

No. 7 Auburn (10-3) held its first practice for the Peach Bowl on Friday due to finals week at the end of the fall semester, whereas No. 12 UCF (12-0) had finals a week earlier. The Tigers also practiced Sunday and Monday.

Frost had not had a chance to watch any of Auburn as of Dec. 7, but he said he got around to watching eight games on Monday.

"They've beaten a Georgia team that was ranked No. 1 and an Alabama team that was ranked No. 1 and handled them," Frost said. "Their strength is really up front on both sides of the football. if we can neutralize that, we're going to have every chance in the world to win. I think our kids can execute and play as well as anybody in the country. If we can block them and tackle them, then I like our chances."

Frost was asked about the comments from Killins, who told the Orlando Sentinel that "SEC football, they don't have a lot of speed, honestly. So, Auburn hasn't seen any speed like we have here."

The new Cornhuskers coach chalked it up to youth.

"Sometimes when you're young, you say things you shouldn't say," Frost said. "I'm always going to back our players and I don't know if there's a player in the country as fast as Adrian Killins. They have a lot of big guys that can run."

Frost, who is taking his entire staff to Lincoln after the Jan. 1 bowl game, took exception to those who believe the outgoing staff is not committed to UCF's last game of the season.

"I know the meaning of the word 'wearing two hats' now," Frost said. "They're both full-time jobs. We're doing absolutely everything we can to give these guys the best chance that they have. It's not easy, but I appreciate people on both sides allowing us to do this. ... It has been difficult, getting on a plane and flying somewhere and getting back here. It's not ideal for me, to be honest with you, but it's the right thing to do and it's the best thing to do for these young men that have played for us."
