Blast Bama! (Auburn vs. Alabama, Iron Bowl Open Thread.)

Iron Bowl Thread

A roaring venue awaits the Tide!

War Eagle, everybody! Amen Corner concludes today in Auburn, as the top-ranked, undefeated Alabama comes calling. The winner of this Iron Bowl game will punch their ticket to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, next Saturday. The loser awaits bowl selection Sunday, and will hope for a good destination. The stakes don’t get any higher, in this annual slugfest.

Most pundits in this game expect a tight, low-scoring game, despite the fact that both teams have high-performing offenses, this year. Both teams like to establish the run, then burn the opposition with deadly passing. Both of these teams also field top-notch defenses that specialize in strangling opposing running games. It’s going to be a war on both sides, in the trenches. This game will kick off at 2:30 PM Central Standard Time, and it will be nationally televised on CBS. No game in the country today has bigger implications.

It should be a perfect day for football, to the fans attending this game. Kickoff temperature should be in the upper 60s, on a partly cloudy day. It should be not too cold, and not too much sun, at the start. The sun will set low over the south end zone in the 3rd quarter, and temps will fall into the upper 50s. As it gets dark, a nearly half-moon will appear high in the sky, if it is not too cloudy. There should be no chance for rain.

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard for my usual play by play, armed with a big mug of coffee and a bowl of holiday Chex Mix. War Eagle, and let’s see if Auburn continue a championship run against the Alabama Crimson Tide!
