The South Eastern Conference is not only the toughest football conference but one of the best baseball conferences in the nation. The fact that Florida and LSU will meet tonight in the national championship series is further proof of just how tough baseball is in the SEC. Seven SEC teams made super regionals this year and Auburn baseball came within one strike of making it eight.

Auburn guard Austin Wiley will be taking his place this weekend along side former Auburn greats Charles Barkley, John Mengelt, and Chuck Person. The sophomore has been named to the 12-member USA Basketball U19 World Cup Team. The national team will be competing for the gold in Cairo, Egypt July 1-9. Wiley was also part of the FIBA Men’s U17 World Championship last year.
International competition runs in the family as Wiley’s mother, Vickie Orr, won gold at both the Goodwill Games and World Championships in 1990 and a bronze medal in the 1992 Olympics.

Clint Myers and sons have gotten the lion’s share of credit for the rise in the Auburn softball’s fortunes as well they should. However, often over looked has been assistant coach Scott Woodard who has been an important part of Myers’ staff. Woodard is a good coach with an impressive resume’.
Before coming to the Plains he was an assistant football coach and a successful softball coach at Western New Mexico University. In seven seasons with the Mustangs, his softball team tallied 191 victories including three consecutive 30-win seasons. As a tribute to his accomplishments, he will be inducted into WNMU’s Athletic Hall of Fame during the upcoming football season.

Booger McFarland has done it again. The SEC Network analyst has a penchant for rumor mongering – most of the time citing anonymous sources in spreading unfounded accusations. On Thursday he charged that Cam Newton is not a team leader and “not well liked by a lot of his teammates.”
I don’t believe it. Sure the Panthers had a losing season last year but there were several key injuries during the season including Newton. I can’t believe (especially based on anonymous sources) that the 2015 NFL MVP does not have the respect and trust of his teammates. Without him, the Panthers would not have played in Super Bowl XLI.
Sounds like Mr McFarland is just living up to his nickname of being a big booger.
