News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

BASEBALL

Cole Lipscomb - aside from a rough first inning of pitching dealing with runners on base that weren't his responsibility - had a pretty fantastic night last night. He's also had a pretty good year in the classroom, too, as he was named an Academic All-American.

Unfortunately, Cole's night wasn't enough. It came down to one last batter that he just couldn't retire and the Seminoles ended up winning in extra innings. Auburn and FSU will play for a Super Regional birth tonight at 6:00 pm Central.

BASKETBALL

In great news, Horace Spencer is back on the court after his injuries that ended his season early last year.

GOLF

It's not exactly Auburn Golf, but it's close. Volunteer Assitant Golf Coach Jason Dufner put together the best two opening rounds in the history of The Memorial Thursday and Friday. He then shot a horrific 77 on Saturday. He didn't give up, though, and battled back to get the win at Jack's Place and became the first golfer since 1989 (Nick Faldo, The Masters) to shoot 77 on Saturday and still win. And, if you're not a golfer, just know that winning The Memorial is a pretty big deal. Outside of the 4 Majors, it's right up there behind The Player's Championship in prestige.

FOOTBALL

In very bad news for former Tigers, Nick Fairley is battling a heart issue that could be career-threatening for the 2010 Tiger standout. We wish Nick the best and hope he's able to battle back from it. And, if his playing days are done, we wish him the best in whatever he does from here.

It was a huge recruiting weekend for Auburn this weekend. There are tons of updates out there about it. We'll have one before too terribly long, here. Here's an open source one from SECCountry.com, though, that's not behind a paywall.
