Auburn won. And Bo was s the MVP. Sounds like a game we’d hear a lot about. But we don’t. But it happened. It was a real thing.
In fact, on Dec. 12, 1984, it was probably the most important thing going in the life of Bud Dudley, Executive Director for the Liberty Bowl, which he founded in 1959. He had to make sure Pat Dye and his players and his coaches and the wives of all his coaches knew what to expect in Memphis.
The Tangerine and Sugar Bowls may not have been fancy enough for complimentary soap and towels for the shower room, but his bowl did — but only on the day of the game. On that point, there can be no misunderstanding. There are 36 Important Factors and the free (FOR A DAY) soap and towels is a Top Ten Important Factor. Ditto the free Coke and cracked ice. Cracked ice? That’s the good stuff. Gameday only. This ain’t the Super Bowl.
[I don’t know. I just like looking at this stuff. I’ll be posting a lot of similar stuff this week and next for TWER patrons at Patreon. If you dig TWER, consider signing up. You’ll get things.]
