Auburn Softball Catcher Carlee Wallace Granted Release and Intends to Transfer

Well, this sucks. James Crepea of AL.com was the first to break the news.

This past season wasn't the best for Auburn Softball after two straight trips to the College World Series. Now, one of the Tigers' best players is leaving the team. Carlee Wallace - a rising Senior - has been granted a release according to James Crepea of AL.com who first reported the news. It has since been confirmed by multiple outlets.

Wallace led the Tigers in RBIs last season. She has been one of the most consistent hitters for all three years that she's been on the Plains. She wasn't just a great hitter, either. She was a monster at throwing out batters attempting to steal.

Auburn does have Courtney Shea returning as a catcher, as well, but Wallace is an extremely large (no pun intended given her height) piece to replace.

As of right now, we don't have anything other than she "just wasn't happy" according to Phillip Marshall's source. I've heard rumblings she may not be the only one. We'll see if this is the first of a few or a one-person decision.

Carlee, we'll miss you. None of us know the behind-the-scenes stories, but know you were loved by all Auburn fans as one of the best competitors we've seen in any sport. If you were unhappy you certainly didn't let it show on the field and that's the greatest compliment I can think to give in terms of commitment and sportsmanship. We wish you luck wherever you go and we'll always cherish the memories of the good times you gave us.

War Eagle.
