Auburn Advances in SEC Tournament

Day one certainly didn’t come easy for an Auburn team that has struggled mightily in the month of May, but they live to see another day in the SEC Tournament following a 5-4 win over Ole Miss in the first round.

The Rebels took an early 2-0 lead before the Tigers broke it open in the fourth inning, scoring three runs from an RBI double from Will Holland and an RBI triple from Jonah Todd. Auburn then allowed an unearned run in the top of the sixth to tie things back up at 3-3.

But with a full count in the bottom of the sixth, Blake Logan smacked one over the fence in left to take the lead that Auburn would then hold for the rest of the game.

Keegan Thompson struggled a bit on the mound early in the game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk through just three innings of work.

Casey Mize came into the game in the fourth inning to relieve Keegan Thompson and delivered six innings of work and earning the win. Mize’s commanding performance was crucial for a pitching staff that will need plenty of rested arms for the remainder of this week’s tournament.

The win was an important one, as the Tigers have now seemingly locked up a spot in an NCAA regional game next week.

Next up for Auburn is a matchup against No. 1 seed Florida. It will be the final game played on Wednesday night.
