It’s that time of year when pre season award list start appearing. And Auburn has landed two players on the Chuck Bednarik Award list. Defensive back Jonathan ‘Rudy’ Ford and defensive end Carl Lawson were both named Tuesday to the award’s watch list.

The award is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former Penn linebacker and NFL Hall of Famer and is presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the top defensive player in college football.

Since these type list are based on the previous year’s stats, it’s a little surprising to see Carl Lawson’s name because he missed the last year and a half due to injuries. Nevertheless, he was a Freshman All-American in 2013 and the selection shows what the prognosticators believe the junior can do.

Ford on the other hand had two interceptions, 4 tackles for loss, a sack, and led the team in tackles with 118. And the senior is primed for his best year yet.

If these two have a productive year in 2016, it may prove to be a very good season for the Tigers.
