The Auburn Tigers entered the seventh inning of their Women’s College World Series game in Oklahoma City trailing the Georgia Bulldogs 3-1. But when the game was over the Tigers had won their second round match up 4-3.
It marked the third time this year that Auburn has come from behind to beat the Bulldogs.
The Tigers rallied with Kasey Cooper and Emily Carosone both hitting RBIs to tie the ball game and forcing Georgia to pull Chelsea Wilkinson on the mound and replace her with Brittany Gray. Auburn then took the lead when Cooper came home on a fielder’s choice.
Rachael Walters (11-3) relieved starter Makayla Martin in the third inning and got the win. The senior allowed just four hits, one earned run with a walk and struck out two batters.
The victory means that Auburn will play in the semi finals and is therefore just one win away from the championship series and will have two chances to win one game.
These Tigers are a focused and determined bunch. They definitely epitomize the line from the Auburn fight song, “Ever to conquer – never to yield.”
An excited head coach Clint Meyers said, “It was a hell of a game. It puts us in a great place. I’m very proud of the fight and the never quit. They stayed in the ball game and beat a very, very good Georgia team.”
The Tigers (56-10) will play the winner of the Florida State and the Michigan-Oklahoma loser on Sunday a 6p.m.CT.
Lets go Tigers, Keep it going!
