Who says Auburn Softball is a pitching team? The Tigers bombed Jacksonville State Sunday to win the NCAA Region Championship!
Auburn scoring early and often, jumped on the Gamecocks in the first inning 4-0 and went on to run rule JSU 14-2 by scoring, one in the second and six more in the third.
The player of the game was outfielder Tiffany Howard who broke the Gamecock’s spirit with a third inning grandslam.
It was only Howard’s second career homerun and it came at a good time, damping any hope of the Gamecocks for a comeback rally. Howard, who didn’t hit a home run in her first 677 college at-bats, has now hit homers in the SEC Tournament and the NCAAs.
Can somebody explain why Emily Carosone was not selected All-SEC? The Auburn senior keeps on tearing it up; she drove in two runs in Auburn’s three-run fourth inning
The Gamecocks (43-17) gave it a valliant effort after defeating South Carolina Upstate late Saturday after having to beat Oregon State in a 14 inning marathon earlier in the day.
The hot Tigers (52-9) were just too much for them. Auburn sliced through the regional tournament like it was butter with a 3-0 record.
Auburn will now play host to either Tennessee or Arizona in the Super Regional next weekend at Jane B. Moore field.
