The 2016 Auburn Baseball season will either continue or end this weekend when the Tigers travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt (37-15) in the final series of the season. It would be an understatement to say the year has been a disappointment.

After being swept this past weekend by No. 4 Mississippi State, Auburn rebounded last night in their 2016 final home game at Plaisman Park. The Tigers took a  third inning 2-1 lead over UAB and Jordan Ebert and Melvin Gray drove in two additional runs in the seventh to give the Tigers a 4-1 victory over the Blazers.

Winning their final game at home was good news for a team that has been scratching, clawing, and fighting all year.

Even better news is the Tigers are still in contention for the SEC Tournament as they control their own destiny. Heading into the last SEC weekend, Auburn, Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas are all vying for the last berth.

If Auburn can win at least one of the three games this weekend, they should get at least one of the two final spots. It’s imperative that the Tigers avoid being swept. And if it should come down to Auburn and the Vols being tied, then the Tigers will get the nod since they hold the tie breaker.

Auburn (22-29, 8-18 SEC) is currently tied with Missouri for 11th place, just one game ahead of Tennessee and Arkansas who are both tied for 12th. If the SEC Tourney were held this week Auburn would be in the field.

However, the Tigers find themselves with their backs against the wall having to face the No. 12 Commodores on the road. First pitch will be at 6:30 CT Thursday.

Lets go Tigers. Beat them Dores!
