Linebacker Daren Bates wasn't drafted into the NFL after his collegiate career ended at Auburn. He managed to make the St. Louis Rams, and he hasn't started a game in his two pro seasons. But Bates won't face an uphill climb to make the roster during this preseason, and all the undrafted rookies who do should use him as a role model, St. Louis special teams coach John Fassel said.
