Gus Malzahn provides updates on 4 injured Auburn players

Gus Malzahn provided updates on several injured Auburn players on Thursday.

Defensive tackle Dontavius Russell (left thumb), running back JaTarvious Whitlow (left thumb) and defensive back Jordyn Peters (right knee) were all full participants in practice on Thursday after sustaining minor injuries prior to spring break, while receiver Ryan Davis missed Thursday's practice with "some flu symptoms" but is expected to scrimmage on Saturday.

Russell dislocated his left thumb in a car accident earlier this month but was seen working with the first-team defense with hand taped on Thursday. Whitlow jammed his left thumb before spring break, a source told AL.com on Tuesday, but he was at practice with his hand taped on Thursday and worked with the second-team offense during pace period.

Malzahn said neither player has any limitations due to the minor injuries.

"Any time a car accident like that, it's very scary," Malzahn said of Russell. "Very fortunate and very thankful that he's OK."

Peters went down with a knee injury during practice on March 9 but was running with the second-team defense at Nickel with a brace on his right knee during Thursday's viewing window.

"He's practiced the last two days," Malzahn said of Peters. "I'm not going to say he's 100 percent, but he's battling through it."

AL.com will update this post.
