Several of the Huntsville Region's top recruits to sign this week


Several of the Huntsville Region's top football recruits are expected to take advantage of the NCAA's new early signing period.

The early window runs from Wednesday through Friday. Among those who plan to sign are:

Austin running back Asa Martin (Auburn): The Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year is rated four stars and the nation's No. 9 ball carrier. Martin said last week that he intends to report for the Tigers' on-campus Peach Bowl practices. He ran for 2,228 yards and 33 touchdowns, caught 20 passes for 399 yards and two scores, threw two touchdown passes and played cornerback.

Decatur linebacker Josh Marsh (Auburn): Marsh is rated three stars and the No. 84 outside linebacker in the nation. He averaged 15.5 tackles per game as a senior, led state in tackles as a junior with 206 and recorded 561 tackles for career.

Madison County running back Tae Provens (LSU): Provens is rated three stars and the nation's No. 56 athlete. He missed four games with an ankle injury this past season and ran for 598 yards and six touchdowns. Provens rushed for 2,549 yards over his junior and sophomore seasons.

Scottsboro defensive end Ethan Edmondson (TBD): Edmondson, rated three stars and the nation's No. 59 strong-side defensive end, is expected to commit today. His offers include Southern Miss, Troy, South Alabama and Rutgers. Edmondson averaged 5.4 tackles per game as a senior and recorded 13 stops for a loss and 10 sacks. He set the Scottsboro single-season and career records for sacks.

Randolph defensive back Levon Fletcher (Troy): Fletcher is rated two stars and the No. 205 cornerback in the nation. He averaged 6.2 tackles per game as a senior, made nine stops for a loss and picked off four passes. Fletcher also rushed for 920 yards and seven touchdowns. As a junior, he recorded 65 tackles and four picks, and ran for 1,066 yards and seven TDs.
