War Eagle, everybody! The Auburn football season continues this morning at Jordan Hare Stadium, where the Tigers will take on Louisiana Monroe in a non-conference tilt. It’s an Iron Bowl tuneup for Auburn, who has all the momentum in the world moving towards next week’s titanic Iron Bowl. The Tigers hope to take care of business today, fine tune a few things, and rest injured players. Louisiana Monroe comes in hoping to get their first win at Auburn. Since moving up to the FBS level back in 1994, the Warhawks have not beaten Auburn. They’ve come close a couple of times. In 1996, Auburn needed a very late touchdown pass from Dameyune Craig to Kevin McCloud to pull out a 28-24 win. In 2012, Auburn needed a Cody Parkey field goal in overtime, to top the Warhawks 31-28.
Make no mistake. The Warhawks are playing to win, today. They have steadily improved this season under second year head coach Matt Viator. They are coming off a 52-45 win last weekend against Appalachian State last weekend, a game where dual-threat quarterback Caleb Evans accounted for 403 yards. Louisiana Monroe currently stands at 4-5 on the season, and they need a 2 more wins to become bowl-eligible. They are at Auburn this weekend, they host Arkansas State next weekend, then have a makeup game at Florida State on December 2nd.
This November tilt in Auburn should be fairly mild, considering the season. Skies should be mostly cloudy the whole game, with temperatures in the mid 60sF. Rain is expected to sweep through the state later today, but it should not reach Auburn before dark.
