Vanquish LSU! (Auburn at LSU, Open Thread.)

War Eagle, everybody! The Auburn football season continues this afternoon, with a visit to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers. LSU had a rough couple of weeks in late September, getting blown out at Mississippi State, and losing their homecoming game against Troy. LSU seemed to have somewhat righted the ship last weekend, with an upset edging at Florida, 17-16. This week, LSU hosts Auburn in the CBS headliner game of the week. This one kicks off at 2:30 PM, Central Daylight Time.

LSU’s issues this year can directly be traced back to injuries on both lines of scrimmage. This week, they hope to have their defensive line back close to full strength, and that will be a matchup that bears watching. Auburn has shuffled its line several times this season, and it is up in the air whether banged-up left guard Mike Horton will start. LSU will have to win the battle up front, to slow down an Auburn offense that has been averaging 48 points per game in SEC play. On the other side, LSU may well start 3 freshman on the offensive line. Frankly, that seems a recipe for disaster, against Auburn’s fearsome front.

For those attending this game, expect a hot one. The calendar says “October,” but the kickoff temperature is expected to be 88 degrees, with a blistering sun overhead. There is not supposed to be any chance of rain.

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard for my usual play by play, this afternoon. War Eagle, and let’s see if Auburn can get their first win in Baton Rouge, this millennium!
