Obliterate Ole Miss! (Auburn vs. Mississippi, Open Thread.)

Ole Miss Thread

Another college football Saturday is at hand!

War Eagle, everybody! The Auburn football season continues this morning, with an early visit from the Ole Miss Rebels. Two teams trending in opposite directions meet today. Ole Miss hasn’t scored a touchdown in their last 6 quarters. Meanwhile, Auburn is averaging 50 points a game against SEC foes. Still, expecting a beatdown isn’t wise. Ole Miss has to be stinging from the 66-3 beatdown they took last week in Tuscaloosa, and I fully expect them to come into this game swinging. This game kicks off at 11:00 AM Central Daylight Time, and will be televised on the SEC Network.

Ole Miss hasn’t run the ball well this year, but they can sling it, with a bevy of talented receivers. Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson is second only to Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham, in terms of passing efficiency, this year, and one expects at some point the dam will break, and Ole Miss will score at will on somebody. Ole Miss defensive coordinator Wesley McGriff coached defensive backs at Auburn, last season, and that may give Ole Miss an advantage. McGriff knows Auburn’s players well. What may be most important, though, he knows Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele’s tendencies. I wonder if the Ole Miss offensive staff has plumbed this knowledge?

The official forecasts I’ve seen from Alabamawx.com and the Weather Channel are forecasting a high of 83 degrees and partly sunny, with only a slight chance of showers during the game. I’m not so sure. It’s deeply overcast in the Tragic City as I type this, with a high humidity. It’s possible that the rains from Hurricane Nate may start in Auburn sooner than expected. I’d bring rain gear, if I was attending. Also, I’d make plans to head home immediately after this game is over. Things will deteriorate over the state this evening. Everyone, please stay safe!

As always, feel free to join in and enjoy this thread. I will at the keyboard for my usual play by play, this morning. I expect there won’t be much pre-game news, with this early kickoff. War Eagle, and let’s smash those Rebel Bears!
