More to Come?

Malzahn_Sumlin
So, a guy walks into a bar. Then says, wow, that hurt.
Imagine walking into an office one day as a head football coach and walking out without a job. Wow, that hurt- even though former Florida head coach Jim McElwain had to know it was coming.
Yes, Florida was the first SEC university to show a head coach his walking papers after only two and one-half years; the first two years resulting in back-to-back SEC East titles.
But this is big-time college football and “what have you done for me lately” is being more and more ubiquitous. I’m sorry, I try and make an indefatigable attempt at not using big words.
And, on the heels of that tidbit of news, it’s now being said that Tennessee Volunteer fans are being encouraged to “empty” Neyland Stadium in response to Butch Jones still being head coach.
What else will happen in the coaching carousel of 2017? Well, those with cause to worry are Coach Ed Orgeron at LSU, Barry Odom at Missouri, Matt Luke at Ole Miss, Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M, and of course, Butch Jones at Tennessee.
We will learn the outcomes of the above, if any, as the season progresses but let’s talk Auburn.
Auburn travels on the road this Saturday to face the Aggies of Texas A&M. This is a game where the visiting team has been victorious since the Aggies joined the SEC. Let’s hope that doesn’t change this year!
Auburn goes in a two-touchdown favorite at Kyle Field and, as I stated in a comment to a previous post, Auburn needs to get off to an early start. Early, as in getting things going in the first quarter (and not letting up at all) and early, as in another 11:00 AM CT kickoff.
I think the above will be key components as to how well Auburn manages this trip to the Lone Star State.
Certainly, Auburn should handle the Aggies. Mississippi State certainly did and we all know what Auburn did to the Maroon Dogs. But, of course, we also know that doesn’t matter. Do I think it is Auburn’s game to lose? Yes, much the same as that trip to, yes, let’s forget about that.
Auburn hopes to be back to almost full strength and, for the record, I am hopeful we don’t need full strength to win this one. I’d much prefer saving the “full strength” squad for the Number 2 and then Number 1 teams in the nation.
On another note, the Auburn-Georgia game time will not be announced until after the games this weekend. Auburn-Georgia will kick off at either 2:30 CT on CBS or at 6:00 CT on ESPN depending on what CBS decides. But, AuTigerman will have all of these for you when the time comes.
And, due to the early kickoff on Saturday and Acid Reign’s GameDay Open Thread, I will allow this to be my little piece of TET for this week.
It’s Still Great to be an Auburn Tiger and…
War Eagle!
